Hair Transplant Techniques and Their Cost

The discovery of the fact that skin grafts can grow hair even when transplanted on a different location inspired the invention of hair transplant techniques to treat a variety of hair loss problems. Gradually, dermatologists mastered the art of hair transplants to the extent that they could give natural hairline without any pain.
We bring you three most famous hair transplant techniques and their cost in India.
Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) Technique
DHI was created in the year 2005 by DHI Medical Group. In this method, every single hair is extracted from the donor area using a US patented tool and implanted into the recipient area very carefully by the surgeon.
All surgeons who perform DHI hair transplant procedures are certified by London Hair Restoration Academy. One of the best features of DHI technique is that it is performed by DHI MD Doctors from start to finish. There is no involvement of technicians/assistants whatsoever.
The cost of DHI hair transplant depends on the number of grafts required to cover the bald area on the scalp and other unique factors such as the hair loss condition and the look one wants. It is slightly more expensive than other hair transplant procedures. However, DHI technique is more affordable in the long run.
The average cost of extracting and implanting a single hair follicle in DHI technique is around INR 105. The survival rate of hair follicles is more than 90% which is more than 2 times higher than the industry standard.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) TechniqueFUE was also pioneered by DHI Medical Group in the year 2003. This is one of the most popular techniques after DHI. In this method, a graft of skin containing 2-4 hair strands is extracted directly from the donor area by the surgeon using precision instruments and implanted into the recipient area of the patient very carefully.
A variety of punches (a device to implant hair follicles and grafts) are used depending on the hair loss condition of the patient.
The cost of FUE hair transplant also depends on the number of grafts required to cover the bald area on the scalp of the patient. So it won’t be realistic to give you an exact cost of FUE hair transplant. However, the average cost of a single hair follicle in FUE is around INR 80. The survival rate is 50% or less. So comparatively, DHI is more affordable in the long run.
Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) Technique
This is the oldest hair transplant technique. In this method, a strip of skin containing hair follicles from the back of the head is removed surgically by the surgeon. Technicians take over from here and dissect the strip, remove hair follicles carefully, and implant hair follicles on to the recipient area very carefully.
Despite the advent of advanced technologies, FUT technique is still quite prevalent. FUT technique is comparatively cheaper than DHI and FUE technique.
Research your options well before undergoing a hair transplant procedure because that looks cheap may not be cheaper in the long run.
